The last installment in my month-long run of lemony lemon lemon-related posts is our families recipe for Flu Bomb.
I make this home-remedy every June in preparation for the onslaught of coughs and sneezes that will inevitably descend on our home, and it works really well.
I'm not gonna lie, this stuff packs a PUNCH. It's strong, spicy and intense. In Mr M's words....."...makes me feel ALLIIIIVVE!!"
Here's what you will need....
Flu Bomb
- 2-3 cloves crushed garlic
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp chopped ginger
- Tiny drop of eucalyptus oil
- Juice of one lemon
- 3-4 tbsp honey
- Hot water
Combine everything in a glass jar, adding enough hot water to help the mixture blend together well. Cover and store in the fridge.
That's it! There's not much too it and it's so simple to take - just 1 teaspoon each day (we take ours after breakfast). The first year we started taking this I noticed a big difference in how often the kids had runny noses and coughs. We made it through an entire winter season without a trip to the Doctor or a script for Antibiotics. That was proof enough for me that this mixture does some good!
And because I get asked a lot for this recipe, (and I'm always forgetting it myself!!) I've made a free printable PDF of the recipe.

It's a great size to stick to the fridge/noticeboard and each print-out has 2 x recipe cards, so you can give one away to a friend.
Here's to a snuffle-free winter!
