I love a good kids party.
The cake, the lollies, decorations, activities, party bags, and even the late night preparations we always end up doing before the big day - I really love the whole process of bringing it all together.
And this year for Rachael's party I think we've just begun to hit our stride! I was so relaxed and well organised, nothing stressed me out and everything fell into place perfectly. This is probably due to the fact that we've had a lot of practice throwing birthday parties in our relatively short family life. Look! There's a bonus to having had our kids so close together. Now we are party planning experts!
There are two things in life that Rachael loves. Dinosaurs and fairies. An unlikely match but that is just how she likes things. I printed out some pictures of Tinkerbell and some dinosaurs and glued them to the party bags, and Rachael had a blast colouring them all in. I love personalising these bags this way!

We had some red spaghetti which was heaps of fun for the kids and so quick and easy. I got the idea from our local Family Day Care provider and just winged it. I cooked one packet of spaghetti as per instructions but decreased the amount of water, adding almost a full bottle of food colouring.
Cook until just soft, the spaghetti has to be quite firm still, otherwise it will fall apart. The spaghetti turned out a real vivid red, love it! Add some oil once it's cooled down to stop it from sticking.
The cake. Our own little Jurassic Park! Complete with a lake (blue jelly), tall grass (green-coloured coconut) and shady trees (borrowed from little brothers toy army set). Matt and I love decorating birthday cakes. Seriously, we're a bit geeky that way. We've had some of the funniest times together when we've been up late, with a glass of wine or two, baking and decorating a birthday cake for one of our 'lil ones.
This was the view from the party. Just gorgeous! The weather was perfect and it was such a lovely party. I'm kind of looking forward to the next one!
